From 15 January 2018 educational solution "lunar Odyssey", a joint project of the United Rocket and Space Corporation, state Corporation "Roscosmos" and LEGO Education, will appear in Russian schools and centers of additional education.
"Lunar Odyssey" is based on the platform LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3. With its help, the students in grades 5-9 will be able to gain and improve skills in technology, computer science and physics.
In the draft went to the current Russian program of lunar exploration until 2035. In the process of drafting the children will solve all the problems to be faced by the astronauts during the moon landing: from the preparation of the carrier rocket to the construction of a lunar base. To develop technical training programs set involved real engineers of NPO Energia and the Corporation ORCC. Therefore, all objects of the solution, for example the carrier rocket "Angara", the lunar lander, the ship "Federation" look real, and jobs as close to real issues that can stand in front of the astronauts.
The solution "lunar Odyssey" includes teaching materials, working and thematic interactive model of LEGO Education, a training Mat and a large field for design work. Teaching materials "Lunar Odyssey" is designed for 144 hours of academic activities and offer teachers 20 STEM-oriented project work.
"In developing the "Lunar Odyssey" we set ourselves the task not simply to introduce children to robotics and technical skills, and learn how to solve real-life tasks. With our kit, students can imagine the trip to the moon and try to organize its technical base," — said Olga Lombas, Director of LEGO Education in Russia and the CIS.
Working with a solution as close as possible to reality, because all of the proposed projects rely either on the history of space exploration, either for existing project development in the framework of the conquest of near space. First, children perform a training mission, acquainting them with the principles for the design of modern hardware and software platforms, and then apply their knowledge when performing the open of the lunar missions.
