On April 29-30 in St. Petersburg, a Festival of Icebreakers. Guests of the festival visited six ships lined up along the quays – English and Lieutenant Schmidt. Within two days it was possible to see how the icebreaker "Krasin", "Mudyug", "Murmansk", "Nevskaya Zastava", "Saint Petersburg" and "Ivan Kruzenshtern". The crew of the ships were told about the technical characteristics of ships, about how to live and work by the sailors.
Such a celebration is not conducted in any country of the world. Despite the weather whims of wanting to get the icebreaker was not less than in years past.
Special interest of the guests of the festival were linear diesel-electric icebreaker "Murmansk". The ship, built on the most modern technologies, capable of conducting the rescue operation to tow the ships to put out fires and hold the ice caravans. For multitasking "Murmansk" equipped with a helipad, outboard Elevator for transporting passengers and cargo winch.
The festival ended with a show of dancing tugs. Hundreds of spectators watched from the quays at the graceful waltz of the ships in the Neva river. The tugs had performed the compulsory program of the Festival – they turned one by one and in pairs, were built in various geometric shapes.
The festival is organized at the initiative of the Committee for tourism development, with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg and the Maritime Council of the Government of St. Petersburg. It is dedicated to the achievements and power of the icebreaking industry and presents Petersburg as the Russian sea capital. It also has the participation of shipyards, marine and naval colleges, the Arctic and North sea regions, specialized museums, tourism and public youth organizations.
