The undergraduate program in biological Sciences of the University of Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University has received international accreditation from the Royal society of biology (RSB). The ceremony took place in the British Parliament.
XJTLU is the second University in the world accredited to the RSB for its programme of basic higher education.
Accreditation is a recognition of the high level of teaching, the curriculum and the development of technical skills, and the ability of the program to raise the necessary employment skills of graduates.
In her opening speech at the ceremony, Professor Jean Thomas (Jean Thomas), President of the Royal society of biology, said: "Our accreditation is awarded to institutions that offer excellent training programs in the field of biological Sciences and providing its graduates with the skills needed to thrive in the global market".
"Protection and promotion of high standards in education is critical for the creation of joint international scientific community, and we are honored to play a role in the recognition and support of these initiatives," added Ms. Thomas.
The ceremony was attended by Professor David O'connor (David O'connor), the head of the Department of biological Sciences, XJTLU, and Liu Chunyang (Chun-Yen Lu), the graduate program is currently undergoing doctoral studies at Cambridge University.
Professor O'connor (pictured above) commented: "the Department of biological Sciences, XJTLU - less than ten years, so we're equally surprised and pleased to such a high recognition.
Accreditation reflects a tremendous amount of work done by highly talented experts of our faculty, and I hope they are proud of the result achieved in such a short time".
Liu Chunyan added: "I'm honored to receive this award on behalf of all the students studying or have graduated the training program at XJLTU. I remember with pleasure the years of training in Alma mater and thankful for a solid base of knowledge in the biological Sciences which provided me with my teachers".
The accreditation was the result of a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of the activities of the faculty of biological Sciences BSc, including the curriculum, qualification of teachers, equipment of laboratories and libraries, as well as methods of assessment of knowledge, administrative procedures and quality control processes.
